| Category 1 : Ages 11 and below | • Contestants must present three contrasting selections with a total playing time between 10 and 20 minutes. • The repertoire must include the first movement of a Sonata by composers such as Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Clementi, or Schubert. However, Category 1 contestants may alternatively choose to present a Sonatina movement or movements by any Classical Composer |

- The Professional Class is only opened to all Malaysian Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 17 and below (born on & after *31st July 2008).
- Previous Grand Prize Winners of SMYPC are not eligible to participate.
- Contestants are allowed to participate in only one of the classes: Professional Class, Amateur Class, or Neu Class
- Category 1: Ages 11 and below (i.e. born on or after 1st Jan 2014)
- Category 2: Ages 12 to 14 (i.e. born between and inclusive of 1st Jan 2011 and 31st Dec 2013)
- Category 3: Ages 15 to 17 (i.e. born between and inclusive of *31st July 2008 and 31st Dec 2010)
- Contestants MUST perform from memory.
- One of the repertoires must include the first movement of a Sonata by either Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Clementi or Schubert. However, Category 1 contestants may alternatively present a Sonatina movement or movements by any Classical Composer.
- All pertinent program details (Composer, Work, Key, Op., No., Hob., K.designations) for each movement of the work intended for performance must be listed.
- Original compositions and improvisations are not permitted. No concerti or transcriptions are allowed.
- Jury has the right to request for the photocopies of all the scores from the contestants.
- Contestant are required to perform the exact same repertoire for further stages of the competition.
- Contestants are not allowed to change repertoire once the application form is submitted.
- Contestants would be playing on a Steinway Grand throughout the competition.
- The participating pianist should be non-professional, not playing for fees, signed to an agent or management.

- All 10 finalists will receive commemorative trophies and certificates.
- Individual piano masterclass for all finalists with reputable maestro/pianist/ Steinway Artist.
- An invitation to all finalists to perform live at the SMYPC Finals & Award Ceremony.
- Winners must attend the Live SMYPC Finals & Award Ceremony in Malaysia ; failure to do so will result in the prizes being awarded to other participants.
- Finalists will be invited to record on Steinway Spirio R, the world’s finest high-resolution player piano which is capable of live performance capture and playback.(upon request)
- Finalists will receive national recognition on steinwaymypc.com and the opportunity to be featured on Steinway Malaysia’s social media.
- An invitation to all contestants to attend exclusive Steinway Webinars.
- Contestants will be invited as observers at the piano masterclass for the finalists.
- All contestants will receive certificate of recognition.
- All contestants will receive the video recording of their performances on Steinway Grand.

- All Professional Class contestants are required to participate in this Preliminary Round - Live Video Recording Audition. The Preliminary Round will be held at Steinway Gallery - Petaling Jaya by our recording team.
- Video Recording will be conducted in a continuous, live-recording manner. Re-takes are not allowed.
- All Professional Class contestants will have to perform all 3 repertoires stated in the application form for our recording purposes in one take only. Repeating or re-recording of performance is not permitted as mandated by the adjudicators.
- Each contestant is given up to 10 minutes maximum warm up time prior commencement of the video recording.
- Only one of the parents/family members is allowed entry during warming up. Photography/videography is allowed during warm up time.
- Video recording can only be done by our representative from Steinway, no other recording or devices are permitted.
- Parents/family members/teachers are NOT allowed entry during video recording.
- Contestants are advised to come dressed formally and appropriately for the video recording.
- Failure to comply to our schedule of video recording will result in disqualification. No compensation will be given.
- Top 10 contestants (regardless of categories) will be selected to compete in the Finals.
- Contestants are encouraged to be accompanied by an adult guardian for the duration of the competition. The guardian is fully responsible for the minor's safety during the competition and all related events.
- Final Round - Live SMYPC Finals & Award Ceremony at Bentley Music Auditorium.
- The 10 finalists will have to perform all 3 same repertoires at the Finals.
- The Grand Prize Winner will proceed to represent Malaysia at the 7th Steinway South-East Asia Pacific Regional Finals 2025.
- Official communications with contestants shall be corresponded via email. It is the responsibility of the contestant to provide a valid email address and respond in a timely manner.
- The organizer reserves the right to produce, broadcast, disseminate and publish the audio and video images taken at any time during the competition. No fee shall be payable. The copyrights for all the material created, produced or obtained during the competition shall be the property of the organizer.
- Any audio/video recording of the performances during the competition is strictly forbidden.
- Contestants are required to participate in all media events for the competition organized by the organizer without remuneration. Unjustified absence from attending these events shall result in withdrawal of prize or disqualification.
- Contestants are responsible for own valuables and belongings. The organizer shall not be responsible for any lost, stolen and damages during the competition.
- Contestants are required to :
- Bear their own transportation and accommodation fees during the competition.
- Show consideration to other contestants, member of jury, hosts and organizer.
- Keep all food and beverages free from the competition venue.
- Abide by all rules and regulations.
- The organizer shall not be liable for any cancellation or alterations to the events due to force majeure circumstances and circumstances beyond control, and for any associated damages and losses.
- The organizer reserves the right to amend and determine the Rules and Regulations of the competition without prior notice.
- The prize shall be accepted as is and may not be exchanged or transferred. No substitutions shall be allowed.
- Bentley Music Sdn Bhd, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability resulting from losses, delays, mistaken addresses on mail or e-mail received, typographical errors, technical, computer or telephone malfunctions, loss or theft of computer or telephone data, damage to software or computer equipment, fraudulent calls or any other unintentional mistakes.
- The winner and his/her travel companion are responsible for obtaining a valid passport and/or other required travel documentation at their own expense. If the winner and his/her travel companion are unable to travel because they lack proper documentation, the prize will be forfeited without compensation, and a new draw may be held.
- The winner must be available to travel on the dates mentioned in the prize description. If the winner is unable to compete on the designated dates, the prize shall be forfeited without compensation.
- Registration will continue until December 31st, 2024. However, if the registration limit is reached before this date, registration will be closed without further notice.
- Contestants are allowed to participate either through Online Video Submission or Live Video Recording Audition at Steinway Gallery - Petaling Jaya. Steinway-Authorized Gallery reserve the right to photograph, record, or video participants during the competition and use these documents for marketing purposes. Steinway & Sons reserves the right to the interpretation of the Terms and Conditions of the Regulations.
- All competitions are judged by the Jury Panel.
- The Jury shall assess contestants' interpretative and pianistic skills, such as musicality & artistry, technical mastery, adherence to the score and stage presence.
- Every member of the Jury will listen, assess all contestants at each stage of the competition and take part in the Jury deliberations.
- The assessments of the Jury shall be confidential.
- The Jury Panel has the final decision and no correspondence will be entertained.
- All contestants shall have no right to appeal under any circumstances.
- All decisions of the jury are final.
