Category for Amateur Class Repertoire Requirements
Category 1: Ages 6 and below Contestant’s own choice of 1 work or 2 works

  1. The Amateur Class is open to all Malaysian Citizens and Permanent Residents young pianists aged 17 and below (born on & after 1st Jan 2008).
    1. Contestants are allowed to participate in only one of the classes: Professional Class, Amateur Class, or Neu Class
  2. Category 1: Ages 6 and below (i.e. born on or after 1st Jan 2019)
  3. Category 2: Ages 7 and 10 below (i.e. born between and inclusive of 1st Jan 2015 and 31st Dec 2018)
  4. Category 3: Ages 11 to 14 (i.e. born between and inclusive of 1st Jan 2011 and 31st Dec 2014)
  5. Category 4: Ages 15 to 17 (i.e. born between and inclusive of 1st Jan 2008 and 31st Dec 2010)
  1. Contestants MUST perform from memory.
  2. The program to be performed comprises of the contestant’s own choice of works. However, the contestants are encouraged to perform a balanced program of contrasting styles and includes classical music from different eras.
  3. All pertinent program details (Composer, Work, Key, Op., No., Hob., K. designations) for each movement of the work intended for performance must be listed.
  4. Original compositions and improvisations are not permitted. No concerti or transcriptions are allowed.
  5. Repeats may be played at the discretion of the contestant, but are not required.
  6. Jury has the right to request for the photocopies of all the scores from the contestants.
  7. Contestant are required to perform the exact same repertoire for further stages of the competition.
    1. Contestants are not allowed to change repertoire once the application form is submitted.
  1. 10 Awards for each Category:
    1. Gold (1 award winner)
    2. Silver (1 award winner)
    3. Bronze (1 award winner)
    4. Excellence Award (7 award winners)
  2. All award winners will receive certificates and commemorative trophies.
  3. An invitation to all award winners to perform live at the SMYPC Finals & Award Ceremony.
  4. Winners must attend the Live SMYPC Finals & Award Ceremony in Malaysia ; failure to do so will result in the prizes being awarded to other participants.
  5. Award winners will receive national recognition on steinwaymypc.com and the opportunity to be featured on Steinway Malaysia’s social media.
  6. An invitation to all contestants to attend exclusive Steinway Webinars.
  7. Certificate of recognition for all contestants.

    I. LIVE VIDEO RECORDING AUDITION
    1. All Amateur Class contestants can choose to participate in Live Video Recording Audition. The Live Video Recording Audition will be held at Steinway Gallery - Petaling Jaya by our recording team.
    2. Video Recording will be conducted in a continuous, live-recording manner. Re-takes are not allowed.
    3. Contestants will have to perform all repertoires as stated in the application form.
    4. Contestants are encouraged to be accompanied by an adult guardian for the duration of the competition. The guardian is fully responsible for the minor's safety during the competition and all related events.
    5. All Amateur Class contestants will have to perform all repertoires stated in the application form for our recording purposes in one take only. Repeating or re-recording of performance is not permitted as mandated by the adjudicators.
    6. Each contestant is given up to 5 minutes maximum warm up time prior commencement of the video recording.
    7. Only one of the parents/family members is allowed entry during warming up. Photography/videography is allowed during warm up time.
    8. Video recording can only be done by our representative from Steinway, no other recording or devices are permitted.
    9. Parents/family members/teachers are NOT allowed entry during video recording.
    10. Contestants are advised to come dressed formally and appropriately for the video recording.
    11. Failure to comply to our schedule of video recording will result in disqualification. No compensation will be given.
    12. All contestants will receive the video recording of their performances on Steinway Grand.
    II. ONLINE VIDEO SUBMISSION
    1. All videos must be submitted by 16th March 2025.
    2. Formal attire is required during the video recording.
    3. All music must be performed from memory.
    4. Original compositions and improvisations are not permitted.
    5. Repeats may be played at the discretion of the performer, but are not required.
    6. The contestant must remain visible in the video throughout the recording:
      • Please ensure that the camera angle captures the piano keys, hand movements, face, and feet at all times.
    7. Your videos must have acceptable visual and audio quality (HQ/HD).
      • If you have an external microphone, using it will help improve sound quality.
    8. The entire program must be recorded in one take with no editing. Any form of video or sound editing/effects is strictly prohibited.
    9. Recordings may be paused between each repertoire selection or applicants may submit two separate videos for each repertoire.
    10. We only accept video submissions from contestants who perform on a grand or upright piano.
    11. The video should not be older than 3 months prior to the application deadline.
    12. Any video submission exceeding the allotted time will be penalized and will not be judged.
    13. Here are the steps for submitting your video on YouTube:
      • Register for a YouTube account.
      • Enter the following information for your YouTube video:
        • Title: 7th SMYPC 2025 - Contestant's Full Name as per IC (Category)
          For example: "7th SMYPC 2025 - Henry E. Steinway (Category 1)"
        • Description: Composer - Complete Repertoire(s) Title
          For example: "W.A. Mozart - Sonata in D major, K. 311, 1st Movement"
      • List the repertoires in order, ensuring you include the composer's name and complete title of each repertoire.
      • Adjust the Visibility Settings to "Unlisted".
      • Disable comments and ratings in the Comments and Rating Settings.
    14. Then, copy the YouTube Shareable Link and submit it via the following form. *(one-time submission only)
  • Final Round - Live SMYPC Finals & Award Ceremony at Bentley Music Auditorium.
  • An invitation to the top 10 award winners (from each Category) to perform at Live SMYPC Finals & Award Ceremony.
  • The top 10 award winners (from each Category) will have to perform one repertoire chosen by the jury and receive their awards.
  1. Official communications with contestants shall be corresponded via email. It is the responsibility of the contestant to provide a valid email address and respond in a timely manner.
  2. The organizer reserves the right to produce, broadcast, disseminate and publish the audio and video images taken at any time during the competition. No fee shall be payable. The copyrights for all the material created, produced or obtained during the competition shall be the property of the organizer.
  3. Any audio/video recording of the performances during the competition is strictly forbidden.
  4. Contestants are required to participate in all media events for the competition organized by the organizer without remuneration. Unjustified absence from attending these events shall result in withdrawal of prize or disqualification.
  5. Contestants are responsible for own valuables and belongings. The organizer shall not be responsible for any lost, stolen and damages during the competition.
  6. Contestants are required to :
    • Bear their own transportation and accommodation fees during the competition.
    • Show consideration to other contestants, member of jury, hosts and organizer.
    • Keep all food and beverages free from the competition venue.
    • Abide by all rules and regulations.
  7. The organizer shall not be liable for any cancellation or alterations to the events due to force majeure circumstances and circumstances beyond control, and for any associated damages and losses.
  8. The organizer reserves the right to amend and determine the Rules and Regulations of the competition without prior notice.
  9. The prize shall be accepted as is and may not be exchanged or transferred. No substitutions shall be allowed.
  10. Bentley Music Sdn Bhd, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability resulting from losses, delays, mistaken addresses on mail or e-mail received, typographical errors, technical, computer or telephone malfunctions, loss or theft of computer or telephone data, damage to software or computer equipment, fraudulent calls or any other unintentional mistakes.
  11. The winner must be available to travel on the dates mentioned in the prize description. If the winner is unable to attend or perform in the Final Round of the Live SMYPC Finals & Award Ceremony on the designated dates, the prize shall be forfeited without compensation.
  12. Registration will continue until December 31st, 2024. However, if the registration limit is reached before this date, registration will be closed without further notice.
  13. Contestants are allowed to participate either through Online Video Submission or Live Video Recording Audition at Steinway Gallery - Petaling Jaya. Steinway-Authorized Gallery reserve the right to photograph, record, or video participants during the competition and use these documents for marketing purposes. Steinway & Sons reserves the right to the interpretation of the Terms and Conditions of the Regulations.
  1. All competitions are judged by the Jury Panel.
  2. The Jury shall assess contestants' interpretative and pianistic skills, such as musicality & artistry, technical mastery, adherence to the score and stage presence.
  3. Every member of the Jury will listen, assess all contestants at each stage of the competition and take part in the Jury deliberations.
  4. The assessments of the Jury shall be confidential.
  5. The Jury Panel has the final decision and no correspondence will be entertained.
  6. All contestants shall have no right to appeal under any circumstances.
  7. All decisions of the jury are final.
