- The Professional Class is only open to Malaysian Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 17 and below (born on or after 31st July 2010).
- Previous Grand Prize Winner of SMYPC are not eligible.
- Category 1: Ages 11 & below (born on or after 1st Jan 2016).
- Category 2: Ages 12 to 14 (born between 1st Jan 2013 and 31st Dec 2015).
- Category 3: Ages 15 to 17 (born between 31st July 2010 and 31st Dec 2012).

General Rules for All Rounds
- All performances must be from memory.
- Contestants must perform all repertoire pieces as stated in the application form. No changes or substitutions are allowed.
- Contestants are expected to wear formal attire during the competition.
- Works for solo piano only.
- Classical repertoire (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Twentieth Century) are acceptable.
- Works by modern composers or those composed in the 21st century are not permitted.
- Original compositions, improvisations, concertos, transcription, are not permitted.
- Contestants must provide complete program details, including composer, title, key, catalog numbers (Op., No., Hob., K., etc).
- Repertoire cannot be changed after submission.
- Contestants must ensure their repertoire meets all competition guidelines. Non-compliance may result in mark deductions.

Preliminary Round – Live Video Recording Audition
- One (1) Etude, and One (1) own-choice classical repertoire works.
- Duration: 8 to 10 minutes.
- Location: Steinway Gallery Petaling Jaya on designated date only.
- Continuous Live Recording, one take only, no re-takes or re-recording are not permitted.
- 6 minutes maximum warm-up before recording.
- Only the Top 10 contestants (regardless of categories) will be selected to the Final Round.

Final Round – Live SMYPC Finals & Award Ceremony
- One (1) first movement of a Sonata (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Clementi or Schubert) & Two (2) own-choice classical repertoire works (Repertoire from the Preliminary Round may be repeated.)
- Duration: 10 to 20 minutes.
- Location: Bentley Music Auditorium (Level 4, Wisma Bentley Music).
- The Grand Prize Winner will represent Malaysia at the 8th Steinway South-East Asia Pacific Regional Finals 2027.
- All contestants
- Invitation to exclusive Steinway Webinars.
- Certificate of Recognition.
- Live Video Recording of performance on Steinway Grand Piano.
- Top 10 Finalists
- Receive Certificate and Commemorative Trophies.
- Invitation to compete at SMYPC Live Finals & Award Ceremony.

Eligibility and Participation
- Contestants may participate in only one class: Professional Class, Amateur Class, or Neu Class.
- Contestants must be non-professional pianists who do not perform for payment and are not represented by any agent or management.

Registration and Communication
- Official communication via email, contestants must provide a valid email address.
- Contestants must bear their own transportation and accommodation costs.
- The competition fee is non-refundable under any circumstances, including withdrawal, disqualification, or inability to attend.

Guardian and Supervision
- Contestants should be accompanied by an adult guardian for the duration of the competition. The guardian is fully responsible for the minor’s safety during all competition activities and related events.
- Only one parent or guardian may accompany the contestant during the warm-up.

Competition Conduct
- Contestants will perform exclusively on a Steinway Grand Piano throughout the competition.
- Preliminary Round: Parent, guardian are not allowed entry during video recording.
- No audio or video recording of any competition performances is allowed.
- Video recording will be conducted exclusively by Steinway Representatives, no other recording devices are permitted.
- No food or beverages allowed in the competition venue.
- Adjudicators may request contestants to provide copies of the original scores for all works in their program.
- Abide by all rules and regulations of the competition.
- Failure to attend the competition on the assigned date and time will result in disqualification.
- Contestants must attend all official media events organized by the competition. Failure to participate without a valid reason may result in disqualification or forfeiture of the prize.
- Protect own valuables; organizer is not responsible for lost or damaged items.

Judging and Adjudication
- All competitions are judged by the Adjudicator Panel.
- The Adjudicator shall assess contestants’ interpretative and pianistic skills, including musicality & artistry, technical mastery, adherence to the score, and stage presence.
- The Adjudicator reserves the right to stop a performance midway if the contestant violates competition rules, exceeds the allotted duration, or for other serious reasons deemed necessary.
- All assessments are confidential.
- The Adjudicator Panel has the final decision, and no correspondence or appeals will be entertained.

Media, Marketing, and Amendments
- The Organizer retains full rights to use all recordings, images, and performances for promotional, educational, and commercial purposes without further compensation.
- Organizer reserves the right to amend rules and cancel or alter events due to force majeure.

Prizes and Responsibilities
- Preliminary Round:
- Prize must be accepted as is, non-transferable.
- Grand Prize Winner is responsible for passport or travel documents; inability to travel forfeits the prize.
