THE 6TH STEINWAY MALAYSIA YOUTH PIANO COMPETITION 2022

The 6th Steinway Malaysia Youth Piano Competition (SMYPC) is open to all young aspiring musicians age 17 and below. The purpose of the SMYPC is to identify, encourage and promote young pianists in the formative stages of their music journey/career.

The grand winner of SMYPC FINALS (Professional Class) will proceed to the 6th Steinway South-East Asia Pacific (SEAP) REGIONAL FINALS, where he or she will compete for the honour of representing SEAP as a performer at the 20th International STEINWAY FESTIVAL in Hamburg, Germany.

ABOUT INTERNATIONAL STEINWAY FESTIVAL

The festival is a biennial event organised by Steinway & Sons in Hamburg, Germany. Since 1987, the much anticipated International STEINWAY FESTIVAL takes place every two years in Hamburg, Germany. Young pianists from different countries of the world come together for a musical congregation, also known as a “Laeiszhalle”. Programs such as harbour tour or an exclusive visit to the Steinway Factory would be amongst the many highlights of the festival; where an important aspect of the festival is for these young talents to experience the culture of performing on stage, without having competition pressure.

ABOUT STEINWAY SOUTH-EAST ASIA PACIFIC REGIONAL FINALS

In the national competitions, local Steinway dealers will administer countrywide FINALS in the following Asian countries: Australia, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Each country will select one representative to compete in the Steinway South-East Asia Pacific REGIONAL FINALS.

Bentley Music, the exclusive dealer of Steinway Malaysia, is proud to host the 6th Steinway Malaysia Youth Piano Competition 2022.

THE AMATEUR CLASS

In 2022, to celebrate the joy of piano playing and the rich diversity of music making, Steinway & Sons Malaysia is proud to introduce a new component to the 6th SMYPC 2022, the Amateur Class. This inaugural Amateur Class is for students who enjoy playing the piano for leisure but wish to have a formal recognition of their progress in their musical journey. Here the competition requirements are more flexible with no compulsory work required hence students have the freedom to choose pieces that would best represent their musical development.
